Artists A-Z

The Artist Reviewing Process

I don’t give artists grades like I do for movies, galleries, and web sites. That’s because artists are people. To be so viciously cruel and so utterly ruthless and so like the average teacher to actually give someone a grade! I would never do that. Look, all I know is that these artists are amazingly talented, and by posting about them I am showing them my deep appreciation for their incredible skills and dedication, and they are officially approved by me: the Hentai Reviewer.

Upcoming Reviews

Soon I’ll be reviewing some of my other favorite hentai artists like Takuya Inoue and Hiroyuki Utatane. So make sure to keep coming back to see what’s new! Don’t forget to bookmark.

Hentai Appreciation

I’ve always been fascinated with anime as an artform, starting way back before I was old enough to know what anime was, or even old enough to go to school. Growing up I remember watching G-Force (Gatchaman)/ and Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) episodes on TV as well as a lot of other anime and Japanese programming, and I was fascinated by it. Since I was so young, I’m not sure what a lot of it was and I haven’t been able to track it down over the years. Like any kid, I was in love with all cartoons, but anime in particular seemed to really appeal to me… I loved the action and the huge spaceships and the big robots, but I especially liked the way the people were drawn. Their big colorful eyes, their small mouths, their graceful movements… I remember actually finding the anime women very attractive in a way that other cartoons didn’t do for me. Of course I was very little and didn’t quite know about the birds and the bees yet, but I knew there was something… special.

During my earlier school years some unfortunate things happened to me and I was separated from the precious little anime I knew, in fact I was quite literally forbidden from it. I’ll spare you my life’s story, but it had a little something to do with my family moving into isolation in the mountains of Montana when I was in second grade and joining a religion that did not allow TV or movies. I felt cut off from the world and during this time I wasn’t even very aware of US culture let alone things like anime from other cultures. I literally missed out on a lot of the ’80’s, be that good or bad, I don’t know. ;)

I didn’t actually pick back up on anime until I was in high school, ‘89 to ‘93. Akira came to a theater at the closest town nearby (almost an hours drive) and my friends and I went and saw it. I don’t think any of us really knew what to expect, but I of course was blown away by that movie. After Akira, I started watching all the anime I could rent or get my hands on, which wasn’t much. These were the days long before eBay (or really any online stores for that matter), and I was too poor to have a computer anyways. But when I managed to actually find my first hentai anime movie for rent, I remember being elated. It was Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend . It blew me away in the same way Akira did, and I was hooked on the hentai. The problem was: I was still in seclusion in Montana where anime was fairly impossible to come by (let alone hentai), and I still didn’t know anyone else who was really into it like me… so it was really challenging to find new stuff.

Finally after graduating high school and working for a year, I saved up enough money to move away from Montana. I was elated to finally make my escape from that back-woods dirty downtrodden wasteland! I moved to Portland, Oregon and it was the best move I ever made. Not only did my health improve because of the better climate, I made a lot of new friends and found a few stores that hooked me up, big time. Movie Madness introduced me to tons of anime movies and even quite a few hentai movies, and I’ve rented them all. This store is simply amazing and one of a kind, they have just about any obscure movie you could think of, plus they collect movie statues and authentic movie props to decorate the store with. I found some great manga and some nice art books about anime artists at Powell’s City of Books, but nothing very hentai. Powell’s is impressive though, it takes up an entire city block downtown and its 3 stories tall, bursting with books. I didn’t really get hooked up with hentai manga or my first cool smut shop until Counter Media opened up two doors down the block from the pizza shop I worked at. Now by “smut shop”, I don’t mean that this was a mere porn store, Portland has plenty of those. No, this was a smut shop. Hell, it still is! This smut shop specializes in adult photography books, adult dime store novels, and adult comics… including hentai manga. I remember being so excited the day it opened… I had to work the morning shift at the pizza shop but I ran down the block on my first break! I was the smut shop’s second customer, but I wish I was the first. I made good friends with the owner, I bought a lot of hentai manga and art books from him over the years, and of course I still drop to see him and buy smut from him to this very day.

It was a few years after I moved to Portland until I was finally able to afford a computer and an internet connection, and thats when a whole new world of hentai anime manga porn cartoons was opened up to me! But this new world did not replace the old, instead they coexist deliciously. I love my hentai manga comics and art books just as much as I love the hentai on the internet… I’m very proud of my comic collection and there is just something so real about holding the books and being able to examine the artwork close-up that the pictures on my computer screen will never be able to replace. And all this stuff happened years ago, long before anime became more popular like it is today.

This page is for people who think of hentai as much more than something to jack off to. If you’re like me, then you love the anime style, you love the big eyes, the small mouths, the crazy colored hair, the sexy ladies, the whole bit. You feel that works by artists like the ones listed on this page belong in museums right alongside the classics and deserve every bit as much respect. And you also see beauty in the bare physical form, and refuse to be embarrassed or ashamed by the beautiful and necessary aspect of life that sex is. This page is for you, enjoy!
